Like Kiwanis, our members demonstrate a vast diversity. Many of our members are contributors in so many projects and programs! Meet some of what makes Ellicott City Kiwanis GREAT!
Kiwanis Position(s): Jenn is currently the Service Leadership Program Committee Co-Chair and will serve as the Club Secretary in the 2017-18 administrative year. Additionally, she is the Key Club Zone Administrator and the Capital District Aktion Club Administrator.
Profession: Jenn is a High School Special Education Teacher in the Montgomery County Public School System, where she teaches English 9, Algebra 1, and serves as the student service learning coordinator. Recently, she was recognized for the second time as an Outstanding Special Education Teacher by Montgomery County Council of Parent and Teacher Associations. Teaching has been a dream of hers since second grade and once she started volunteering with a therapeutic riding program in sixth grade, she knew special education is where her heart laid! Jenn loves going to work every day!
Community Activities: There is no such thing as free time in Jenn’s life, as she is dedicated to serving the world one child and one community at a time while making the best better! She also volunteers with the Carroll County 4-H program as a Co-Leader of the Teen Council Club and serves as President for the Maryland 4-H Volunteers' Association.
JAYMIE LYNN SANTIAGO
Kiwanis Positions: Jaymie is currently the K-Kids Kiwanis Advisor for Chesapeake Math & IT Elementary School and serves on the Publicity Committee as the Club Webmaster. This is her 10th year in the Kiwanis Family - starting with KIWIN'S in high school, followed by Circle K International in college.
Profession: Jaymie is a Kindergarten Teacher in Prince George's County Public Schools and is in her 5th year of teaching. Jaymie has always held a strong belief in the power of positive people. It is what drives her to continue work in the Kiwanis family and in her professional career.
Hobbies: In addition to her work with children, Jaymie loves to do runs (from 5Ks to marathons), go on hikes, and is an avid sports fan, with some of her favorite teams being SF Giants, Lakers, and Patriots! She also plays softball with the UCLA DC Alumni Network. When she isn't changing lives and on the go - Jaymie enjoys crafting, photography, and Netflix binges.
Kiwanis Positions: Len currently serves on the club's Board of Directors, Scholarship Committee, and Publicity Committee. He will be the President-elect during the 2017-18 Kiwanis year. This is his 3rd year in the Kiwanis Family.
Profession: Len is an Associate Broker affiliated with RE/MAX Advantage Realty. His real estate practice has grown over the past 14 years by working with many buyers and sellers, many of whom have referred their family, friends and co-workers. He is a member of the Howard County Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, and RE/MAX International.
Community Activities: Len is also a member of Glen Mar United Methodist Church and currently serves on the Board of Trustees. Len participates in several ministries at Glen Mar, including the Parking Lot and Cooking ministries, and has been a member of a small group for over five years.
Hobbies: Len and his wife are raising their 15 years old grandson, Tyler. Tyler has a promising baseball career, having just completed the JV season as the starting pitcher at Centennial H.S. During the summer, baseball keeps them very busy. Family is very important to Len and they like to spend time with their oldest daughter and her family. Len's middle daughter moved to Nashville, TN and travels to see her as often as possible! Other hobbies are hiking and playing golf.
Kiwanis Position: Harry is a long-standing member of our club and serves on the scholarship and publicity committees.
Profession: Harry is an Edward Jones financial advisor since 1997, having opened the firm's first branch office in Howard County, and in 2006, he became a limited partner with Edward Jones. He also earned two professional designations, AAMS® and CFP®. Recently in 2017, for the eighth time, he qualified to attend the Edward Jones Annual Managing Partner's Conference, an honor reserved for the firm's top 400 financial advisors.
Community Activities: Harry firmly believes in giving back to this community. For 38 years, he has been a member of the Knights of Columbus and also done extensive missionary work in Appalachia.
Additional Info: His family has lived in Ellicott City for four generations and he attended Mount St. Joseph's High School and UMBC, graduating with bachelor degrees in both economics and sociology. Harry is married to his wife, Pauline, since 1991 and they have three wonderful children. His son, Harry IV, joined Edward Jones as a financial advisor in 2014. His son, Chris, graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2016 and his daughter, Jenny, graduated from Mt. St. Mary's in 2017.
Kiwanis Positions: Josh is a proud member of the Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City (MD) in the Capital District and will be the club's president during the 2017-2018 Kiwanis year. Josh also serves on both the Capital District Key Club and Circle K Adult Committees as a zone administrator. Josh is a lead facilitator for the Kiwanis International Key Leader program, a role he has held since 2008. Josh has a substantial background within the Kiwanis Family. As a Key Club member in high school, he served as both Lieutenant Governor (two terms) and Governor of the New England District. He is a past recipient of the Robert F. Lucas Outstanding Lieutenant Governor Award, the Distinguished District Governor Award, and the Robert Thal Scholarship. Josh joined Kiwanis in 2010 and quickly became involved in the community. Josh is a George F. Hixson Fellow within the Kiwanis Children's Fund and a Life Member of the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation.
Profession: Josh has worked in higher education since 2003. He is currently the Executive Director of Alumni Benefits & Services in the Office of Alumni Relations at the George Washington University. Josh is also pursuing a doctorate in College Student Personnel Administration at the University of Maryland - College Park where he previously worked and taught undergraduate courses including Leadership in Groups & Organizations and Leadership in the Workplace. A first-generation college student who believes in the power of education, Josh holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from the George Washington University and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling & Personnel Services from the University of Maryland – College Park.
Kiwanis Position: Courtney completed her first year as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City and will be joining the Board of Directors and lead the Promotions and Marketing Committee this October.
Profession: Courtney is a product manager for Oracle Hospitality. She works to determine the needs of the market and guides development to build software to meet those needs. She has been working at Oracle for almost 7 years, during which time she has worked as an Implementation Specialist, Technical Consultant, and Senior Project Consultant.
Community Activities: Courtney is a community leader for Oracle Women's Leadership, where she works to promote an inclusive environment for both men and women in the technology industry. She helps organize events for coworkers, such as educational webinars that teach professional and personal development and networking events where employees can get to know some of their coworkers and increase their professional network.
Hobbies: Courtney bought her first home in June 2016, and she really enjoys doing home improvements, gardening, and decorating her home. She also loves spending time with friends and family, going to events at the Columbia Lakefront, seeing movies, eating at new restaurants, and working out.
Kiwanis Position: Benita is a second-year member of the Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City and currently serving on the Board of Directors and as the Membership Chair.
Profession: Benita is an Information Systems Analyst in the healthcare industry. She configures electronic medical record applications to function seamlessly between multiple healthcare organizations. She has over ten years experience working within this niche of the healthcare market, along with previous IT experience, to include computer programming, project management, and statistical analysis.
Community Activities: Benita is also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Crofton. She continues to seek out volunteering opportunities in both Howard and Anne Arundel counties.
Hobbies: Benita has a long list of hobbies, but her absolute favorites include catching up with family and friends, going to the movies, trying out new restaurants, visiting museums, walking, reading and writing among other things.
Kiwanis Positions: Andrew is the president of the Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City and also serves on the board of directors for the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation. He will next serve as the Division 4 Lieutenant Governor in the Capital District of Kiwanis International on Oct. 1, 2017. Andrew got his start in the Kiwanis Family when he joined Circle K at University of California, Davis, where he served as their vice president.
Profession: Andrew is a Air Force captain and works as a personnel officer in the District of Columbia Air National Guard. He began his military career as an enlisted soldier in the Army Reserve and deployed to Afghanistan in 2003 before commissioning into the Air National Guard in 2009.
Community Activities: Andrew recently joined the advisory board of the Volunteer Center Serving Howard County, whose mission is to stimulate and expand volunteerism in the community through connecting people to non-profit and public agencies in order to improve the quality of life for all people in Howard County.
Additional Information: Andrew is married to his wife, Uni, since 2007 and have three children, Alana, Aiden, & Ariana. He graduated with a bachelor of arts in history from UC Davis and a law degree from University of Baltimore School of Law, where he served as the president of the Student Bar Association during the 2013-14 academic year. He was born and raised in San Francisco and is a proud supporter of Bay Area sport teams and Chelsea F.C.
